Nuno Felting in the Washing Machine

Had a little experiment to see if I could create some nuno/laminate felt in the washing machine, without doing any rubbing, rolling or throwing myself.

The result wasn't entirely successful - there were bits of the fabric that had not adhered to the wool and I had to put them in about three cycles to get them to the stage I wanted. But it wasn't a complete disaster. I shaped them into four different brooches and may have another go sometime.

Here's another washing machine experiment.

I placed some handmade prefelts around a shower gel bottle, then I wrapped wool around everything to secure it in place. I then put it in a leg of a tights and washed it on a 40 degree wash.

Somehow it turned into this little creature!

And this little monster was done in the exact same way but around a balloon with legs and arms attached before putting in the washing machine.

What to do with them now!!

Easter Fun Day

Just before doing an Easter Fun Day I made another chick and bunny - this time keeping the top of the egg on the bunny.

Children on the day were brilliant and made some very cute bunnies and chicks.

Easter Felt Activities

Soft felted bunny and chick made from hand felted merino wool.

I've enjoyed rediscovering the joys of very soft felting.

Also used some manufactured merino wool prefelts to make some more pictures. Liked the result and it"s perhaps possible to be more precise using this.

Felting around Gems by Will

Will (age 10) made these for his teachers last summer by felting around a gem stone and then cutting out a hole to expose the gem.

Think he did a fantastic job! Must get him to make me one!

Felting around a balloon

A few years ago experimented with felting around balloons.

My first attempt was not too successful:

It made a nice plant pot though.

Managed to retain the shape of the balloon a little better with practise!

And one inspired by Monet.

Colourful Felt Easter Eggs

Lots of lovely soft egg shapes from some felt I made from carding little bits of wool.

Think this bit would have looked good as an abstract picture!

I've put them together in a kit.

I also did a mini felt workshop at a local craft fair. The children did a great job and made some lovely designs.

Anemone Brooch

Just love Anemones - they always remind me of my Nana and Grandad.  Such tactile flowers - perfect for replicating in felt.

This one is not traditional colours but made from a piece of felt that I made as a tutorial but then couldn't work out how to do a separate page for tutorials -  must learn how to do this soon!
